!Contrary to popular belief conspiracy theorists do not wear tin foiled hats!
I recently came across an email that got passed around and it started off like this;
“Conspiracy theorists believe in a crackpot of ideas and deserve their reputation as an amusing distraction but once in a while they get one right...”
What sort of mind makes a statement like this? Honestly, I had to put a few paragraphs together to dispel the tin foil conspiracy theory stereotype and explain what the big deal is here.
“So, what sort of mind makes a statement like this?”
It’s the type of misconstrued mind that in medieval times would certainly feel vindicated in attending witch burnings, or see differences of opinion against dogmas as heresy, the same reasoning that saw Galileu and Socrates to have clashed with the state for stating that Earth was round not flat and that Earth stood not at the centre of the Universe but circling around the Sun, or Plato’s criticism of important people that got him into a state trail. In modern times however, it’s the gullible mind that believes governments are your friends and would never do anything untoward their citizens, that the class system does not exit and that Walter Wolfgang in 2005 was deservedly pushed out of the New Labour Conference for not respecting his right to “shut up”.
Or, that Martin Luther King, JFK and Salvador Allende were killed in random attack rather than by the Mafia or the CIA instead. Or, that the Bank of England is not a private institution lending money to the state at an interest or that the Federal Reserve Bank did not introduce a bill to the Senate surreptitiously in 1913 to self proclaim itself as the sole private Bank to create money on behalf of the American government in exchange for paid interest in the form of income tax. Was this a conspiracy against the state or mere big business commanded by men of great vision? What does this say about our democracy? The following quote may shed some light on the subject:
“Edward Mandell House would influence the candidate from behind the scenes. The people would perceive one man was representing them, when in reality; an entirely different man was in control. House didn't need to influence millions of people; he need only influence a handful of men. He helped establish a secret society in America that would operate in the same fashion - the Council on Foreign Relations”. It’s a game of cat and mouse connect the links and you’ll connect the dots.
What about the UK’s “sexed up dossier” for war on Iraque an its 45 minute false claim or the conspiracy laid in the “evidence” of WMD and the elimination of Iraque war opponents such as Paul Wellstone, Robin Cook, Dr. David Kelly and Hans Blix made to step down after not having reached the conclusions government wanted to ear, are these just coincidences? What about the Montebello SPP summit in Canada in 2007 and the undercover police officers acting as agent provocateurs planning to discredit the protestors. The same template was later used at the Seattle WTO where some black bloc anarchists at the protest were in fact US Delta Force operatives. Knowing that some sections of government are behind these events makes it all that much easier to accept that the London 7/7 bombings and 9/11 were also conspiracies planned from the inside.
What about Goldman-Sachs, Vodaphone or Amazon not paying their fair due of taxes in the UK or the US, often by keeping all their billions offshore, is it for the good of their customers, for investment? Or, is it tax evasion? No one disputes it’s tax avoidance – is it not conspiring against the very state institutions in which people and the Nation rely on to frame their lives present and future? Doubting that conspiracies exist is to believe that the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon was really an airplane when there is no footage of a airplane collision from the 84 CCTV cameras in the area nor was this made public by the authorities, except for a 1.5 second clip after efforts from the victim’s relatives and others demanding the release of evidence. It is to believe that big business never has second intentions and can self regulate itself, such as in the Halliburton loophole and Dick Cheney, which greatly profited from the war on Iraq, later introducing the 2005 energy bill making gas and oil companies, including Halliburton exempt from prosecutions under the Safe Drinking Water Act for its right to fracking for shale gas freely or in the case of the Monsanto Protection Act.
Or, is to believe that Biochemists studying transgenic foods have not been removed from their jobs when findings on GMO studies did not pan out the way the government wanted them too, as in the case of UK lead study under Tony Blair by GMO scientist Dr Árpád Pusztai and later backed by renowned Professors Susan Bardocz, Professor Shiv Chopra, Dr. Vandana Shiva, Dr. Rima Laibow, Scott Tips and others. Or, it is to believe that Monsanto is not bringing law suits against farmers, on seeds patent infringements, aiming to make traditional farming illegal hoping to convert the whole planet to Mon”Santan’s” GMO culture of death, when so much evidence already shows they do.
You see, one of the first thing anyone learns in business language is that business always plans ahead. So, most of the consequences we see happening are the result of years in the making. How these plans then rub against society is open for geopolitical and societal analysis, preparedness, action and reaction, pushing and pushing back until one of the side wins - justice is abstract.
Has high-finance fraud become the weapon of choice for nations in love with success and hell bent on economic growth at any cost under the protection of national security? That would explain why so little is done to tackle secret jurisdiction tax havens, bailouts and lack of regulatory enforcement. The blind pursuit of wealth and wealth transfer is it self corrupt as those who part take in it care not what motion they push serving the master who pays them. Corporate conglomerates have gotten even bigger to fail, meaning that Corporate Gigantism, so eloquently put by Paul Wellstone Minnesota senator, will now be backed by the tax payer (Socialism) and that is not how Capitalism is suppose to work, Crony Capitalism is now giving rise to a new Oligarchy, a step away from Fascism, as said by Plato “Oligarchy is made up of a society in which wealth is the criterion of merit and the wealthy are in control. Democracy, then degenerates into tyranny from the conflict of rich and poor. It is characterized by an undisciplined society existing in chaos, where the tyrant rises as popular champion leading to the formation of his private army and the growth of oppression.”
From the Gambinos’ crime family to Al Capone, they would too look for loop-holes to work in the shadows and it’s these underhanded strategies that some may see as, simply “business strategy as usual”, but in truth these are in fact the conspiracy plans that set in motion an overthrow of an obstacle to reaching a successful outcome, usually financial profit and ever greater monopoly. These are the conspiracies we should all seek to uncover. Are you connecting the dots yet?
A conspiracy story may reveal itself in traffic of influence, a cover up against the public interest, lies and misrepresentations or a play on conflict of interests and an investigator will look for explanations and pursue uncomfortable stories seeking accountability. Far too often mainstream journalism has become tied down by towing the company culture originating a systemic fear of creating waves and getting a reputation as well as genuine wide spread ignorance as many feel fulfilled in their cosy jobs, so far fewer put themselves on the line for a just cause - the truth.
This is all more apparent on TV, which feels it needs to convey a wholesome image, be palatable to business and “impartial” and that we shouldn’t be serious all the time - fair point. The problem is that - it is not impartial, when so much is filled with entertainment, promoting a state agenda - the Networks’ official position, ignoring alternative views, blocking serious and trusted research already presented in alternative circles - in printed media or the Internet. What happen to investigations by journalist like John Pilger or Peter Oborne? Have they been banned from Television? Is it because they are both critics of the invasion of Iraq and exposed Tony Blair Associates (TBA) and Alastair Campbell’s propaganda of New Labour often using staged media stunts to dominate the headlines.
To be frank, it makes mainstream TV look like it fears tilting the scales of power, conforming to the “proper news” often falling short of telling the full story for fear of giving conspiracy revelations their due merit. Accepting that, would reveal how much they been getting it wrong for a very long time and so, the only course of action is to try to discredit alterative view points, it’s pushing the same faces over and over again and conforming to a format of normality. This is achieved amongst other ways, by making the light subjects sound very serious and on air for longer periods and serious subjects sound very doubtful and on air for shorter periods. Why have programs like Dispatches or Panorama gone down in quality and length? It’s a bit like David Cameron launching a parliamentary inquiry to 'get to the truth' of rate-fixing scandal but by stealth cutting the budget provided to the SFO (Serious Fraud Office). So, often this habit of leaving crucial information out of a story, except for a few serious newspapers, plus loads of entertainment makes a recipe for turning us into passive consumers instead of lateral thinkers.
Conspiracy investigations are in most part symptoms of an educated people but often end up being ridiculed by misguided souls calling them crackpots as it’s often easier to dismiss an incredulous truth, rather than recognising you been lied too and accepting the facts under a new light of reality, because just when you thought “big interests” wouldn’t cross that line - guess again, they will. Quoting musician Anika (Generation OS13) “They where only using music for escapism...people forgot you can use music as way to express your issues with government, with society...”
In conclusion, I am all for great entertainment but we should equally make time to feed our minds by seeking to be informed about issues like finance and politics to better understand and make decisions on matters that affect our lives and future generations. Unless, the aim is to purposely culturally define a society solely by its entertainment values to allow the next generation to forget or lose interest in these issues leading them to think that nothing else exists and feed them a steady diet of perpetual happy news, very similarly depicted in Aldous Huxley's film Brave New World.
We also see exposés by whistleblower Julian Assange, William Binney, Thomas Drake, Karen Hudes, Marta Andreasen, Kurt Sonnenfeld, Ray McGovern, Edward Snowden, Paul R. Moore, Clinton Eugene, Annie Machon and others as pressure grows to deliver justice for whistleblowers.
If anything, most conspiracy revelations are true, just follow the money. From all the premeditated fraud by Banks and miss management in the European Parlament, to heavily corporate funded political campaigns and their revolving doors, to the 9/11 air control change in air defence protocol, to well funded opinion making think-tanks and front groups receiving millions, such as in the Koch Brothers and their free market fundamentalism campaign of misinformation allowing corporations to write, pre-vote and pre-approve these laws presenting these to legislators who go along with this system disguised as social change but it truth affecting individual rights and liberties, the protection of the environment and health care rights. The US takes the lead but not unique to the US, the UK sells weapons to the Middle East to help maintain cosy finance relations and in Portugal the bailout of the BPN, the hushing of the “Face Oculta-Polvo” case to prevent the Prime Minister from being impeached. In Italy the famous transgressions of Berlusconi and his media grab, all and all a widespread corruption by a political class in cahoots with Banks immune from accountability as more and more the State “teat” is there to pick up the tab and need be impose more austerity.
So, just as we saw in Nazi Germany with the torching of the Reichstag, quoting writer Naomi Wolf, we end up playing the game of “follow the leader”, the new leader being the EU directives and Corporate control over the laws of each sovereign land, and no politician or regulatory organ has oversight or is able to stand up against this Gingantism (more in the film The Brussels Business).
“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”
— Dr. Martin Luther King
Conspiracy theories are responding to an increase level of secrecy and are asking questions about the disproportional fear of everything. Today there is an Oligarchy grab for control building up in society and a trend to tag everyone on the planet, all for personal gain, facts are skewed by distraction in a deliberate dumbing down as mainstream media works very hard at giving you the same program on a loop so you are kept away from the pertinent information and don’t start asking the right sort of questions, as theories are only theories until they are proven to be the facts.
To conclude I would like to direct you to another recent example of a conspiracy. This one will focus on the “The lies behind this transatlantic trade deal”, 2014 TTIP, and journalist George Monbiot exposes plans to create an EU-US single market that will allow corporations to sue governments using secretive panels, bypassing courts and parliament. Is this yet another evolution on the Security and Prosperity Partnership which has reinvented its name to NASRA, are we seeing it again in the Transatlantic Trade Investment Partnership? It seems these machiavellian plans never really have gone away. The same is of SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (Protect IP Act) morphing into CISPA (The Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act).
If CISPA were to become law it would grant businesses and the government an unprecedented ability to share data without the need to consider anti-trust or classification laws. This new legislation would enable law enforcement to take down an entire domain due to something posted on a single blog, arguing, "an entire largely innocent online community could be punished for the actions of a tiny minority". The bill's wording is vague enough that a single complaint about a site could be enough to block it, with the burden of proof resting on the site. SOPA would bypass this "safe harbor" the 1998 Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) provision by placing the responsibility for detecting and policing infringement onto the site itself, and allowing judges to block access to websites "dedicated to theft of U.S. property.
Some other type of conspiracies can be found in modern fabrications, as in certain NGO’s sole purpose being to instigate scams that push for regime change Syria and Ukraine as reported by the Truth Seeker. It’s nothing knew it’s true, but the point is, what sort of world we want to see? Do we seek accountability in truth or do we accept that in this life you have your winners and losers and as long as you are on the right side nothing else matters. It’s evil against good and poor versus rich and greed versus sharing, it’s community versus possessive individualism, is it privatizing Banks profits and nationalizing their losses or reversing that same trend?
Conspiracies always hide behind opposite truths and convoluted language, such as calling trade regulations as “trade irritants” and creating “false positives” sometimes in secrecy and sometimes in plain sight. So learn to decode the deceptions and learn the art of common sense and good reasoning, allow yourself to study the facts, as many “nay sayers” are reluctant to accept conspiracy theories because they refuse to look at the facts, do that and you too will be a able to recognise a conspiracy when you’ll see one. Plato once wrote — "Until philosophers rule as kings or those who are now called kings and leading men genuinely and adequately philosophise, that is, until political power and philosophy entirely coincide, while the many natures who at present pursue either one exclusively are forcibly prevented from doing so, cities will have no rest from evils,... nor, I think, will the human race."
Let’s hope we are measured in the way change is brought upon us or a greater change will be brought upon us. I would like to finish with another quote by Paul Manly, producer of the documentary me you and the SPP) when he says - “The price of a better world is eternal vigilance“.
